Welcome to the new home of Overseas Motors Smart Centre Windsor.
From the beginning, we've considered the use of alternative material and concepts in the production of our cars. Each individual smart component is subjected to a continuous ecological improvement process. Ongoing development projects optimize the use of recycled and sustainable raw materials.
Even in the development phase, we use eco-friendly parts. Furthermore, we require that all our system partners follow these same guidelines. This means that all parts and components delivered are developed and manufactured to consistent ecological criteria. Harmful substances like lead, chromium, mercury and cadmium are excluded from the production process from the outset, and PVC is avoided almost completely.
We track the complete development process by an ecological control system created to monitor compliance with these strict regulations. All directly and indirectly involved development teams are an integral part of this system, which, since 1997, has been certified to ISO 14001 on the Böblingen site by external inspectors.
We even produce an "eco balance sheet" that offers fascinating insights into the future, insights provided by GaBi, the software system used for the lifecycle engineering of new component concepts as they're developed.
In addition to evaluating the demands on raw materials and anticipating pollutant emissions, GaBi assesses the volume of waste that is likely to be created. We take the entire smart life cycle into consideration. It can even compare the specific consumption of energy by different means of transport per passenger kilometre. It shows that the smart fortwo cdi, reviewed in energy terms over all the phases of its life, is nearly as efficient as a city bus and much more economical than the average small car.
